Thoughts from tonight's Harris County DA debate

A few things stuck out in my mind from tonight’s debate.

First, does Judge Lykos have any idea how much it would cost to store every email ever received by any ADA? And does she really mean to store all emails? Even the “Honey I’m gonna be late again tonight because I have a ton of crack pipe cases to screen for tomorrow.” or the “Increase your copulation organ” emails? Of course the cost of email storage would be a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of her “New Regional Crime Lab”. And these fiscally conservative ideas are being brought to you by the letters G, O, and P. The only position the Harris County Republican Party should be supporting her on is County RINO of the year.

The second thing that got me worked up tonight was when all four candidates said that they would support providing defense BFLs with copies of the case files. How about instead of sticking the taxpayers with the cost of Xerox toner and paper and the wage of the poor secretary that would have to make these copies, we provide Kinkos with some space to lease in that big ass court building and let the defendants pay for their own fucking copies.

To conclude tonight’s rant, it’s bad enough that Harris County conservatives don’t have a candidate to vote for in the Presidential race, we can’t even find one for DA.

I got to shake hands with Senator Fred Thompson today at the event at Hobby Airport. I must say that he has a handshake that this man would be proud to vote for. I especially liked his story about how when Texas was founded all the Tennesseans that could read moved here.

Also, there today supporting Thompson was our Attorney General, Greg Abbott

And no poltical event would be complete without the token nutjob, who was reported to be a supporter of the Supreme Nutjob, Ron Paul, by Fox26 news. She was escorted away by the Five-Oh, but not arrested.

To his credit, Thompson answered her question about his involvement with the North American Union before the organizers had her removed. I believe that many of the other candidates would have ignored such a hostile question.

So, I have this light at my front door, which my wife leaves on 24/7. Consequently the bulb in it lasts about a month. Then, after two months of nagging I finally get around to replacing it and the cycle starts anew. One month of light. Two months of no light. One month of light. Two months of no light. Well after three years of this and hearing from Rush about the new tree-hugging friendly compact florescent funny looking curly-cue bulbs that last FIVE years while using less energy, I decide what the hell, I’ll shell out six bucks if it means no more nagging to change the bulb for the next FIVE years. I go and buy two of the ones that claim to be the equivalent of a normal 100 watt bulb. One for the front door and one for the back, ‘cause the dogs need to see when they’re outside too <\roll eyes>. I get out the step ladder and my mostly discharged cordless screwdriver and set out to change me some bulbs. Whizzzzz, tink, tink, tink, damn where that screw fall to. Whizzzzz, pry, boy there’s a lot of dead bugs inside here. Unscrew the dead bulb, screw in my new tree-hugging friendly bulb that’s gonna last me FIVE years, put the cover back on. Hmmm? Why aren’t the screw holes on the cover lining up with the ones in the base? Awww shit these funny looking curly-cue bulbs are just a tad to big for this fixture. Maybe, I can angle the cover and get it on. Crack, tink, tink, tink. FUCK! I just broke a SIX dollar light bulb and released some not so tree-hugging friendly Hg into the environment. “HUNNY! Could you go fetch me a normal light bulb? I just broke one of these new funny looking ones ‘cause the damn thing doesn’t fit in our fucking fixture.” Unscrew the broken bulb, screw in the new normal bulb, search around for the missing screw, and replace the cover. Viola! There is light and it is good. So, the next day the wife and I are in her favorite French emporium, Targ’et and on the end cap of one of the aisles is a display of these new funny looking curly-cue lights and she says these look smaller than the ones I bought. I take a look and what do you know, the 40 watt equivalent bulbs are smaller than to 100 watt ones. So, she asks “Why don’t you try ones of these smaller ones?” To which I reply, “Cause I just changed the bulb and I ain’t buying another six dollar bulb, especially if it puts out less than half of the amount of light that I am used too.” So, the moral of this narrative is, Al Gore and the rest of the smelly, jobless, tree-hugging hippies can go screw themselves and die, before I’ll be switching to six dollar light bulbs.

In 2002, after years of poor service from SBC, AT&T, and TXU communications, I started using Vonage from my home telephone, and have been just as happy with their VOIP service as I have been with your wireless service. Now as an electrical engineer I understand the importance of protecting your Intellectual Property and defending your patents, however I urge you to reach and agreement that will allow Vonage to continue to provide their service. If your legal actions cause Vonage to no longer be able to provide me with service and I have to find a new provider for my home telephone, I will, as soon as my contract expires, be finding a new provider for mine and my wife’s wireless service.

Prosecutor defends prior leniency given suspect in fatal crash

Here are a few things the interested reader should know about the Criminal In-Justice System,

1st – Harris County Jails follow a policy of “2 for 1”. Which simply means that for every 2 days that a criminal is sentenced to county jail he only really serves 1. 60 day sentence? Out in 30. 10 day sentence? Out in 5. 365 day sentence? Out in 182. So for 3 DWI convictions this illegal alien served a total of 217 days in jail.

2nd – For a number of reasons it is very difficult to get 12 people that are pissed off about being picked for jury duty to agree beyond a “reasonable” doubt that the accused is guilty in DWI trials.

“Everyone has had a few too many and driven home. I’d be a hypocrite if I voted to convict this guy”
“The Police are all liars. They just have it in for _______ (insert disenfranchised class here) people.”
“The breathalyzer doesn’t really work. Even sober people will fail”

So, we really shouldn’t point the finger at the prosecutor because she did the best she could with in our broken system, but rather we should point the finger at the federal government for not deporting this guy after his first arrest. If the federal government would start doing its job and deporting the criminal illegal aliens instead of letting the county governments give them “slap on the wrist” punishments like 5 days for a second DWI, there would be more room in our jails for the American criminals to serve their full sentence and everybody would be safer. Unfortunately, this is as likely to happen as me scoring a touchdown in the Superbowl. I would like to recommend to our County Sheriff Tommy Thomas the next time the bleeding heart liberals start to whine about the over crowing in our jails, that he take all of the illegal aliens house there and transfer them to the maximum security facility in Crawford. Until we make illegal immigration the President’s personal problem, the federal government is not going to do a damn thing.

I am not opposed to all toll roads, I think Harris County has done a good job with their toll road system, however, I am opposed to the conversion of existing free roads to toll roads. Also I find the abuse of eminent domain and the giving away of our public infrastructure to a foreign entity that is proposed with the TTC particularly abhorrent. Not to mention the fact that I see little benefit in a super toll way system that bypasses all the major cities in Texas.

This bill has been sent to the Licensing & Administrative Procedures Committee and is awaiting a hearing.
